DOE Releases Proposed New ENERGY STAR(R) Criteria. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) released preliminary new criteria parameters for the ENERGY STAR Window Program in January. The new parameters raise the number of climate zones from from to five and tighten U-factor and SHGC requirements in each zone in three phases between 2009 and 2015. During a meeting of the Window and Door Manufacturers Association in Palm Beach Gardens, DOE Program Manager Richard Karney said that, ENERGY STAR barely beats code in many states. The latest data show ENERGY STAR at 53 percent of the market. We'd like to see it at the top 25 percent as opposed to saturating the market." -- DWM Magazine, February 2008
